Visit the microsite at https://www.friends.hek.ch/
If you have a wallet, connect using WalletConnect - it supports lots of different wallets - and skip down to Purchase.
If you don't have a wallet, MetaMask is a popular choice. Get it here.
Once you’ve set up your wallet, you will need to purchase ETH (Ethereum’s cryptocurrency) to buy the HEK membership token, which is an NFT. See the glossary if you’re not familiar with these terms.
You can purchase ETH via Metamask (here) or you can search for a cryptocurrency exchange to use. Be sure to use one that you trust! Note that all service providers (including
MetaMask) will require you to submit personal information to complete the purchase. Some of these services will take several minutes or more to complete your transaction so we recommend starting this process when you’ve got a bit of time.
Once you have ETH in your wallet, scroll down the page to the Purchase section of the webpage, and click Purchase with ETH.
You’ll see text that says “You’re in!”, confirming your purchase. This includes a link to our Discord server, The World of HEK. You need to join this to access the private Friends of HEK space (more on this below).
You can also view your new membership token on OpenSea (remember, it’s an NFT) or you can see it in your MetaMask wallet, though this feature is still in development. You can also follow the link to Etherscan to see the transaction confirmation.
Joining the exclusive Friends of HEK Discord server happens in two stages; but first you’ll need to set up an account on Discord if you don’t already have one.
Next, join the public World of HEK Discord. Once you’ve joined, you need to verify your assets in the #verify-here channel. This lets Collab.land, which is a community management tool, check that you hold the membership token in your wallet.
You’ll see a message from the Collab.land Bot; click ‘Let’s Go.’ This will provide some information about signing a transaction with your wallet to join the Discord. Again, you are using your wallet to prove that you have the HEK token in your possession.
Connect your wallet, then sign the message to verify. You’ll see a confirmation screen that says:
“Please check the collabland-join channel in server The World of HEK for your role status.
The update may take up to 2 minutes to complete.”
Head back to Discord, and you should see that you have been granted access to Friends of HEK. You can now see private channels.
HEK is committed to making Friends of HEK accessible to as many people as possible. If you’re not comfortable with using a cryptocurrency wallet, you can purchase a membership token with CHF on the regular HEK website. This means that HEK will hold your membership token on your behalf as you’ll need it later on for voting and other Friends of HEK events. If you change your mind, and would like to take custody of your token (hold it in your own cryptocurrency wallet), contact us and we can help.
Ready to purchase your Friends of HEK membership token? You will need to have a Discord account so be sure to sign up for that first. This is required, and you can’t purchase the token without an account.
Next, head over to https://shop.e-guma.ch/hek/en/tickets and select the membership token for purchase.
The purchase form will ask for your Discord Username. To find this, click on your DisplayName in the lower left corner of Discord. This will give you a pop-up that looks like this:
Click the icon on the right, and it will copy your Username. This is the name that appears under your DisplayName. In the example above, hek_basel is the UserName.
You will receive an email receipt confirming your purchase.
Once you have purchased a membership token, you will need to join the public World of HEK Discord server. Access to the exclusive Friends of HEK channels will follow shortly, but sometimes the process takes a few minutes. Get in touch if it’s been more than 30 minutes and you still can’t see the Friends of HEK channels in Discord.
Everyone joining the server is required to read the Code of Conduct when they join The World of HEK. Channels under the Public category are visible to anyone entering the Discord regardless of token status. All other channels will become visible once the HEK token has been verified.
Crypto wallet holders will start in the #verify-your-assets channel; crypto-cautious Friends of HEK members will start with the #read-first channel.
